To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many residents there are in private nursing homes; and what was the total in 1980. [18103]

Not all nursing homes provide information on the number of residents. On 31 March 1994, there were 10,661 residents in the private nursing homes which did provide data. Information was collected for the first time in 1991 when private nursing homes reported 7,964 residents.
