HC Deb 21 October 1994 vol 248 c349W
Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many pollution warnings his Department has issued, broken down by category of pollutant and showing how many were incorrect, for each of the last three years for which figures are available.

Mr. Atkins

The Department provides regionalised air pollution level forecasts for ozone, nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide each day. The Department issues pollution warnings when the level of ozone, nitrogen dioxide or sulphur dioxide is forecast to be "very poor". For the breakdown of these figures, I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave him on Wednesday 19 October,Official Report, column 248.

Before and during the episode this July, when ozone levels became "poor", the Department issued three press releases.
