HL Deb 19 October 1994 vol 558 c7WA
The Countess of Mar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What protection is offered to individuals living or working in close proximity to fields where toxic agricultural pesticide sprays, which may volatilise and drift under certain weather conditions, have been used.

Lord Inglewood

Individuals living and working near fields where agricultural pesticides are sprayed are protected by law. The relevant legislation is the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988.

The Government has published a Code of Practice for the safe use of pesticides on farms and holdings which includes advice to pesticide users on measures to minimise pesticide spray drift and to protect neighbours and walkers.
