§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what information he has received from the European Commission under the provisions of article 228162W of the treaty on European Union in regard to the letter of 17 June from the United States Department of State to the Commission on the extension of the 1960 United States Euratom co-operation agreement.
§ Mr. NeedhamThe negotiations on a new nuclear co-operation agreement with the United States are being conducted pursuant to article 101 of the European Atomic Energy Community treaty and are unconnected with article 228 of the treaty of Rome, as amended by the treaty on European Union. My Department has received from the Commission a copy of the letter of 17 June from the US Secretary of State which forms part of the continuing negotiations between the Commission and the United States. A further negotiating meeting was held on 3 October.
