To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many(a) top secret and (b) secret files his Department holds.

§ Mr. Howard
As at 31 December 1993, the Home Office held 707 top secret and 86,049 secret files, representing 0.015 per cent. and 1.8 per cent. respectively of the approximate total—4.8 million—of the Department's files at that time.
