To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what were the financial balances of Ealing council in(a) May 1990 and (b) May 1994; and if he will make a statement.

Ealing council reported a deficit in reserves of £12,000 at 1 April 1990 and a surplus in reserves at 1 April 1994 of £40,891,000 (or £43,682,000 including those earmarked for local management of schools).
