§ Mr. MaddenTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department in what circumstances special constables or their dependants are eligible to make claims for criminal injuries compensation if a special constable is killed or injured on duty; how many such compensation claims have been submitted in each of the last three years, to date; how many were(a) accepted and (b) rejected; and what was the amount of compensation paid in each case.
§ Mr. MacleanSpecial constables are eligible to apply for compensation under the criminal injuries compensation scheme in the same way as any other blameless victim of a crime of violence in Great Britain. In cases of death their dependants are similarly eligible to apply. All applications are considered under the same rules.
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board does not collate centrally information about claims made by special constables, or other occupational groups.
