HC Deb 24 November 1994 vol 250 cc285-6W
Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security whether he is prepared to review the work of the compensation recovery unit to take more note of the future medical, social and financial needs of sick and injured people.

Mr. Roger Evans

Compensation is subject to recoupment only up to the date of award or settlement.

Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is the projected income of the compensation recovery unit for this financial year.

Mr. Roger Evans

On current trends, it is estimated that the compensation recovery unit will recoup approximately £100 million in 1994–95.

Mr. Hutton

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what plans he has to extend the market testing initiative to the compensation recovery unit; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Roger Evans

The work of the compensation recovery unit is currently the subject of a feasibility study to determine whether all or part of the work should be subject to a market test. Some initial research has been done which merits further careful consideration before any firm decisions are made.
