HC Deb 26 May 1994 vol 244 c302W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is her Department's policy on whether children who cannot live with their own family should have a choice about the language and culture of the family who adopt them.

Mr. Bowis

Under legislation, courts and adoption agencies are required so far as practicable to ascertain the wishes and feelings of the child and give due consideration to them, having regard to the child's age and understanding. This would include the language and culture of his proposed adoptive family.
