HC Deb 12 May 1994 vol 243 c204W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had with the chairman of the National Rivers Authority, Wales region, in relation to falls in salmon and sea trout spawning runs on the River Tawe subsequent to the completion of the Tawe barrage in Swansea; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Redwood

This is a matter for the National Rivers Authority which has, under the Water Resources Act 1991, a statutory duty to maintain, improve and develop salmon and sea trout stocks. I understand that studies into the effect of the Tawe barrage on migratory fish stocks are continuing.
