To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the rate of economic growth in the United Kingdom and that of other EC economies.

The United Kingdom grew faster than any other major European Community country in 1993, and is expected to do so again this year.

In the first quarter of 1994, United Kingdom gross domestic product grew by 0.7 per cent., to a level 2.6 per cent. higher than a year before. GDP has now grown for eight quarters in succession.
