HL Deb 31 March 1994 vol 553 c68WA
Lord Airedale

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether compliance is being achieved with the Statutory Instruments Regulations 1947, Section 10(1) of which provides "As soon as possible after the end of each calendar year the Treasury shall cause to be prepared from the series of statutory instruments up to the end of that year an edition of statutory instruments (in this Regulation called the 'annual edition')".

The Minister of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Lord Strathclyde)

Because of the heavy workload now involved in preparing the annual edition of statutory instruments, and its associated indices and tables of effect on previous statutes, compliance with Regulation 10(1) of the Statutory Instruments Regulations has not been as timely as we would wish. However, following the computerisation of much of this work in 1990, the backlog is now being reduced. The Statutory Publications Office aims to complete publication of the 1991 edition in the summer of this year and progressively to improve on these dates so that, from the 1995 edition onwards, publication should be within 12 months of the year to which it relates.
