HL Deb 23 March 1994 vol 553 c27WA
Lord Brabazon of Tara

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the latest position on light dues.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Mackay of Ardbrecknish)

We are pleased to announce that light dues for 1994-95 will be frozen at the levels set in March 1993. We are able to do so largely because the three General Lighthouse Authorities are to contain their expenditure proposals for 1994-95 broadly within the levels set for 1993-94. This has been made possible by further savings from the automation of lighthouses and by the authorities entering into co-operative arrangements which will enable a reduction to be made of one ship in the lighthouse tender fleet.

We commend the General Lighthouse Authorities for taking this initiative.
