The Government were defeated on 20 occasions in the 1992/93 session. Sixteen of these defeats arose on amendments to primary legislation. Six defeats were reversed in the House of Commons (including one without a division); one was reversed but compromise action was taken outside the terms of the legislation itself; two defeats were reversed but the relevant Lords amendments were replaced by amendments in lieu; six were accepted and one was accepted but modified by amendments.
