The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about the transportation by Securicor of female prisoners in the Metropolitan Police district.The contract with Securicor requires female prisoners who are pregnant or whose babies or young children are with them in prison to be transported to and from court by saloon car. They must also be accompanied by a female prisoner custody officer and a trained nurse.
