§ Mr. Stewart[holding answer 28 February 1994]: The Government's policy is to stimulate the development of renewable energy sources, including wind power, wherever they have the prospect of being economically 663W attractive and environmentally acceptable. Such developments should contribute to diverse, secure and sustainable energy supplies. In June 1993, a national planning policy guideline "Renewable Energy" and a planning advice note "Wind Energy Developments" were issued in draft to planning authorities in Scotland. We plan to issue finalised guidelines later this year.
