Mr. Ingram

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many staff are employed in the inspection of private nursing homes in the Lanarkshire health board area;

(2) how many licensed private nursing homes there are in the Lanarkshire health board area;

(3) on how many occasions each of the licensed private nursing homes in the Lanarkshire health board area has been inspected since it was opened.

[holding answer 21 June 1994]: An assistant chief area nursing officer is employed exclusively on nursing home inspection duties and has access to a full administrative service and other medical, pharmaceutical and additional specialist nursing input, as required.

There are 50 registered nursing homes within the Lanarkshire health board area, all of which are inspected at least twice annually.
