The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question asking what was the number of sixteen year old (a) men and (b) women being held in prison establishments in England and Wales on 10 June.The latest available provisional information is for 30 April 1994. On that date there were 386 sixteen year olds (377 males and 9 females) held in Prison Service establishments in England and Wales.
