We are developing road safety education material for the 16-plus age group in schools and colleges, a scheme for post-test driver training linked to lower insurance premiums, and a separate theory element to be included in the driving test from 1996; and are considering the introduction of a scheme requiring newly qualified drivers to retake the driving test if they commit serious traffic offences.
