To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the policy of the national health service on parental leave and leave for family reasons.

For staff employed on national terms and conditions of service, special leave for domestic, personal and family reasons is available under an agreement of the general Whitley council, copies of which are available in the Library. Under the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990, national health service trusts have the freedom to determine their own leave arrangements for staff on trust contracts.
