The Department of Transport contributed to its preparation. I welcome the publication of this document and would encourage everyone interested in these issues, especially disabled people themselves, to respond with their views.
§ Mr PikeTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions his Department has had with(a) manufacturers and suppliers and (b) representatives of the disabled regarding the design of taxi cabs in relation to access and safety for the disabled; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FreemanThe Department has worked closely with manufacturers and suppliers of vehicles and equipment in the taxi industry and with representatives of people with disabilities over the past decade to develop features and facilities that will meet the needs of the wide range of elderly and disabled people who have mobility problems.
