HL Deb 11 July 1994 vol 556 cc95-6WA
Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked the Chairman of Committees:

What steps are being taken to improve the air conditioning system in the Chamber of the House.

The Chairman of Committees (Lord Ampthill)

Over recent years, the plant for controlling the temperature in the Lords Chamber has been progressively updated and the work is nearing completion. However, the failure of one of the as yet unmodified units on 27th June 1994 led to an uncomfortable rise in the temperature in the Chamber on 27th/28th June and this is regretted; this was rectified by the afternoon of 29th June. A sophisticated computer control system providing constant monitoring of ambient temperature combined with the new type of air filters which have recently been fitted as well as ongoing engineering work will provide a reliable temperature control system in the future.
