§ Mr. Robin Squire
In 1992–93, local education authorities spent an average of £1,857 per pupil in maintained nursery, primary and secondary schools. LEA spending returns do not allow us to distinguish the amount spent on compulsory education from within that total.458W
Most central Government support for local authorities is in the form of unhypothecated revenue support grant. It is not therefore possible to identify the proportion of local authority education spending met by the Exchequer.
