§ Mr. Alan Howarth
To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what role will be played by his Department in the forthcoming consultation on disability; and what plans he has to publish a consultation paper on making public services accessible to disabled people.
§ Mr. Waldegrave
My right hon. Friend the Minister for Disabled People will be co-ordinating action on the forthcoming consultation on disability and will involve other Departments as necessary. The principles underlying the citizens charter apply to everyone, including people with disabilities. I am hoping shortly to publish jointly, with the Minister for State for Social Security, a checklist to help service providers and those responsible for drawing up and publishing charters or statements of charter standards to consider in more detail the standard of service they offer to people with disabilities.
