HC Deb 11 July 1994 vol 246 c466W
24. Mr. Kilfoyle

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what initiatives he intends to take to implement an effective United Kingdom ban on the availability and use of anabolic steroids in sports.

Mr. Sproat

In 1993–94, the four sports councils spent over £910,000 on their programmes to combat drug abuse in sport and carried out nearly 4,000 tests. The availability of anabolic steroids is already controlled under the Medicines Act 1968 and the Government are currently considering whether to introduce further controls.
