On the basis that there were 834 general dental practitioners in Wales as at 30 June 1993 this would give average gross income of £78,922 per practitioner. The income for individual practitioners ranged from £2 to £276,437. Figures for dentists' earnings in the private sector are not available.

Dentists practising in more than one family health services authority are counted in each FHSA but only once in the Wales total. It is not known centrally how many of these dentists offer a full NHS dental service.
