To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the size and nature of the list maintained by her Department of candidates for health authority and trust appointments.

Nominations for appointment to national health service authorities and trusts, which are received from hon. Members and others, including self-nominations, are forwarded to regional health authorities who are responsible for making some appointments and whose chairmen are required to propose candidates for board appointments made by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State.
