§ Mr. BettsTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many recipients of portable discounts paid for leaving their rented council property have subsequently received a further discount on purchasing a second council-owned property.
§ Sir George YoungNo statistics on the matter are held by my Department.
§ Mr. BettsTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many portable discounts were paid to tenants of(a) Westminster council and (b) Wandsworth council in each year of the operation of the scheme to date which did not result in the vacant property being relet to a homeless family or an applicant on the council's housing list.
§ Sir George YoungThe table shows the number of cash incentive grants paid directly by Westminster council and Wandsworth council which did not result in the property vacated being relet to a homeless household or an applicant on the housing waiting-transfer list.
My right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State approved these schemes on the basis that vacated properties could be sold to tenant purchasers, whose vacated properties would in turn be relet to a homeless household or waiting list applicant.
