To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what steps he is taking to study the options for the privatisation of the national air traffic control system; and what is his timetable for the study.

[holding answer 24 January 1994]: A working group of officials from my Department, the Ministry of Defence, the Treasury and the Civil Aviation Authority are examining the options for transferring national air traffic services to the private sector. They are looking at the operational, legal, financial and other implications of the options and expect to report to Ministers at the end of February.
