HC Deb 25 January 1994 vol 236 cc199-200W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport to which countries with which the United Kingdom has no diplomatic relations there are direct flights from the United Kingdom.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have been asked to reply.

The following are the states recognised by Her Majesty's Government, but with which we do not currently have diplomatic relations:

  • Bhutan
  • Iraq
  • Korea (North)
  • Libya

There are no direct flights from the United Kingdom to any of these.

Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to restore diplomatic relations with Taiwan; when direct flights from the United Kingdom to Taiwan were resumed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have been asked to reply.

We have no plans to establish diplomatic relations with Taiwan. EVA Airways and British Asia Airways commenced services from the United Kingdom to Taiwan in March 1993.

We welcome the increasing development of business links and tourism with Taiwan.
