Mr. Peter Robinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what evidence he has as to the extent to which performance-related pay policy in the Northern Ireland civil service is achieving its objectives.

The present scheme has been in existence for less than two years and the extent to which performance related pay policy in the Northern Ireland civil service is achieving its objectives has not yet been subject to formal review.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will set out the breakdowns of numbers and percentages for the years 1991–92 and 1992–93 of the overall performance appraisal ratings for non-industrial staff in the Department of Finance and Personnel; and whether this breakdown is consistent with the original predictions.

When the present performance appraisal system was introduced, no predictions were made as to the anticipated performance levels of staff.
