To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer of 14 January,Official Report, column 343, what criteria he used to select the journalists who were given a background briefing on 20 December; and if he will make a statement.

§ Mr. Aitken
The criterion for the invitation to journalists to the briefing on the defence costs study was that they should be specialist defence correspondents from national media organisations.
