To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has on the number, type and funding of apprenticeships currently in Nottinghamshire, the east midlands and England.

Estimates of the number of apprentices are available from the labour force survey. Latest available figures indicate that, in summer 1993, 12,100 people in the east midlands, and 172,000 people in England were undertaking apprenticeships. Figures for Nottinghamshire are not available.

The labour force survey gives figures by industry, by occupation and by personal characteristics of apprentices. Information on funding is not available.
