HC Deb 18 January 1994 vol 235 c548W
21. Mr. Spring

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what estimates he has made about the cost to United Kingdom industry of a statutory 35-hour limit on the working week.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

A compulsory 35-hour weekly limit would cost United Kingdom industry up to £20,000 million. It would be disastrous for competitiveness, jobs and the economic recovery.
