To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects work to begin on widening the A12 Chelmsford bypass; and if he will make a statement.

Subject to the present review of the trunk road programme we hope to consult the public about our proposals for widening the A12 Chelmsford bypass later this year. Further progress will depend on the successful outcome of subsequent statutory procedures and the availability of funds.
