To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the Government's policy on the privatisation of the Post Office, together with the timetable for its implementation.

Mr. McLoughlin

The Government are conducting a review of the structure and organisation of the Post Office. Continued public sector ownership, as well as private sector options, are being considered. The review is still continuing, and no decisions have been taken. An announcement will be made in due course.
