HC Deb 11 January 1994 vol 235 cc116-7W
Mrs. Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what procedures are in place to ensure the effectiveness of the advisory committee on NHS drugs since February 1993.

Dr. Mawhinney

The independent advisory committee has been asked to provide expert advice to Ministers. We are satisfied that it does so effectively.

Mrs. Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will list the representations she has received since February 1993 from pharmaceutical manufacturers regarding the posts on the advisory committee on NHS drugs.

Dr. Mawhinney

We have received no such representations. A member with experience of the pharmaceutical industry was appointed to the committee in February 1993.

Mrs. Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the composition of the advisory committee on NHS drugs; for how long appointees have served on the committee; and what was the level of remuneration where appropriate.
