To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many families receive family credit; and how many received family income support in 1978–79.

In September 1993, 515,000 families were receiving family credit compared with only 78,000 receiving family income supplement in March 1979.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is the current average award for family credit.

Mr. Burt

The average weekly award is £43.30.
