HC Deb 22 February 1994 vol 238 cc192-3W
Mr. Morley

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what consideration the Forestry Review Group gave to the assertions and recommendations made in "Sustainable Forestry: The UK Programme" (Cm. 2429) when coming to its conclusions.

Sir Hector Monro

[holding answer 21 February 1994]: Ministers set up the Forestry Review Group to review the effectiveness of the current incentives for forestry investment, to review options for the ownership and management of Forestry Commission woodlands, and to make proposals which would improve the effectiveness of the delivery of the Government's forestry policy objectives, having regard to our other economic and environmental policies.

Our forestry policy objectives are set out in "Forest Policy for Great Britain" which we published in September 1991. "Sustainable Forestry: The UK Programme" provides a comprehensive account of these objectives and of the action we are taking to achieve them.
