To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many British military personnel will be stationed in the demilitarised zone around Sarajevo following the handing over of control of heavy artillery; and if he will make it his policy that British troops will fulfil only the role of controlling the heavy weaponry.

Deployment of troops on the ground in the former Yugoslavia and their precise roles in fulfilment of the United Nations mandate are a matter for the United Nations. There is already a small RAF detachment of 34 personnel in Sarajevo participating in the British humanitarian airlift operation.
