Mr. Menzies Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many civilians were found guilty of fraud in his Department in each year since 1989; and how many were dismissed.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

One employee was convicted of fraud in 1990. The person concerned was dismissed.

Mr. Menzies Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is his Department's policy for dealing with employees found guilty of fraud.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 1 February 1994]: Employees convicted of fraud would be subject to internal disciplinary proceedings. Each case would be treated on its merits, but in serious cases the normal penalty would be dismissal.
