To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the number and location of(a) dwellings and (b) vacant dwellings by his Department in (i) London, (ii) Birmingham, (iii) Lancashire and (iv) Berkshire; and if he will make a statement.

As at 31 December 1993 the Ministry of Defence owned the following dwellings and vacant dwellings in London, Birmingham, Lancashire and Berkshire.

The majority of the vacant married quarters were either undergoing or awaiting major maintenance work or modernisation or were already allocated to Service families who were due to move in shortly. In addition 229 vacant married quarters in London and 206 tenanted civilian houses in Berkshire were in the process of being sold.
