HC Deb 04 February 1994 vol 236 cc988-9W
Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total amount paid out in redundancy and severance payments to civil servants in each of the past five years for which figures are available, broken down into civil service grades.

Mr. Dorrell

The total of compensation payments made to civil servants under early retirement/severance arrangements—which also cover redundancy—is as follows:

Year £ million
1991–92 96
1992–93 180
11993–94 169
1 to December 1993.

Figures are not separately identifiable for redundancy nor is information available by civil service grade.
