To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to ensure that English Nature extend the period of consultation of the proposed special protection area for the coast of Northumberland.

Mr. Atkins

[holding answer 1 February 1994]: The consultation period has already been extended to 10 weeks, two and a half times the period normally given for such consultations. I see no reason for a further extension.
