§ Mr. Austin MitchellTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the cost of maintaining the Treasury model in terms of(a) direct staff costs and (b) other costs.
§ Mr. NelsonThe equivalent of around five full-time posts are currently devoted to economic model building and development. This staff requirement translates to a cost—including basic pay, national insurance and superannuation costs—of around £200,000 per year. It is very difficult to estimate the indirect costs involved, but these could add a further £100,000 per year if the costs of accommodation, senior management time, training and other items are taken into account.
