To ask the Secretary of State for Education what adjustment is proposed to the total spending to take account of the transfer of funding of GNVQs from local authorities to central Government in the 1995–96 financial year; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Boswell

We propose to transfer £0.25 million from local authority finance in 1995–96 for the funding of GNVQs. This transfer will be reflected in the cost to schools of candidates registered for GNVQs in 1995–96. The Government have announced that they will be providing £23 million new money over three years to support vocational education. Details of the package will be announced shortly.
