§ Mr. Heathcoat-AmoryNo. The United Kingdom protocol to the treaty of European Union, negotiated by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister at Maastricht, provides that the United Kingdom is not obliged to join a single currency. Any notification of United Kingdom intention to do so would require a prior Act of Parliament.
