HC Deb 14 December 1994 vol 251 c654W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will set out the ways in which the Government's policy of ensuring that energy services are provided to customers in a commercial environment in which consumers pay the full cost of the energy sources they consume, as outlined in the White Paper on the prospects for coal, apply in regard to nuclear energy.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The White Paper "The Prospect for Coal" Cm 2235, explained that transitional arrangements in the form of the nuclear non-fossil fuel option and the fossil fuel levy were put in place at the time of electricity privatisation to enable the full costs of nuclear generation in England and Wales to be met. These arrangements are being assessed by the nuclear review.
