HC Deb 07 December 1994 vol 251 c279W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many medical complaints were heard in Scotland in each of the past five years; and in what percentage of cases complaints of patients were upheld.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 5 December 1994]: This information is not available for the full period requested. Information about complaints since January 1993 is now published in a series of quarterly NHS complaints bulletins, copies of which are held in the Library of the House.

A global figure in respect of primary care service committee complaints in 1993–94 is provided in the most recent bulletin for the quarter ending 31 March 1994. The number of complaints made specifically against general medical practitioners was 141 of whom 13.5 per cent. were found to be wholly or partially in breach of their terms and conditions of service.
