HC Deb 07 December 1994 vol 251 c268W
Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the present situation in the attempt to find peace in Liberia.

Mr. Baldry

We strongly support the continued efforts by the Ghanaian President Rawlings to encourage a new agreement among the Liberian factions, but are disappointed that the latest round of talks in Accra ended on 29 November without making progress.

A high level UN mission has been visiting Liberia and is due to report to the Security Council shortly. The present mandate of the UN observer mission, UNOMIL, is due to end on 13 January.
